Mixing Antique And Modern Style In Bathroom Linen Cabinets

There was a time when furniture meant wooden furniture, as it was traditionally made of wood of some sort or another. That is no longer true, with various wood composites, plastics and metals coming into the home furniture market in ever increasing variations. Despite this, wood furniture in the traditional style is still very popular, and often the modern equivalents such as MDF will be used to make home furniture that mimics the more traditional antique solid wood designs of old.

Bathroom linen cabinets are an example of this phenomenon; while you can still buy an antique linen cabinet in solid wood, or a modern reproduction piece, you can also find modern equivalents made from wood composites. As with all furniture quality, design and price do vary a great deal but with such a wide choice of bathroom and other linen cabinets available you stand a very good chance of finding a cabinet that is ideal for you.

An example of a bathroom linen cabinet in traditional wood style is the Heirloom Chelsea 2 door Linen Storage Cabinet from Home Decorators Collection. Priced at a modest $300 or so this vintage style cabinet would go well in a bathroom with other wooden furniture or could be used in a hallway, laundry room, bedroom or walk in closet. It is available in Antique Oak and Cherry finishes and is beautifully crafted from hardwood. You will find many linen cabinets adopting similar traditions in a similar price range and higher.

There are plenty of linen cabinets around that are made of modern MDF and some of these can actually be quite attractive and well suited to the bathroom.  An example around the $125 price mark is the Nassau Louvered Door Towel Cabinet from Southern Enterprises. This is a small simple linen cabinet, 37 inches high, which is designed for bathroom linen (ie towels) and the white finish makes it suitable for many bathrooms.

Mixing traditional linen cabinet design with modern style results in some intriguing bathroom cabinets. Some are quite stunning, such as the American Standard 9430.100.240 Providence Apothecary Linen Cabinet, Weathered Black or White. This sells at just over $1000 for the black cabinet or more than $200 extra for the white version. This is an apothecary style of cabinet that has classic looks yet is designed to appeal to the modern homeowner for the modern bathroom. With its alder construction and cherry veneers plus antique brass hardware this is one of those bathroom cabinets that spans the ages well.
